What to Do When You've Got a Leak

A  Leak in the home is a really worry

heres what to do if you find a leak on a mains water or heating pipe

  1. Find your stop tap and turn it off.
  2. Open All taps to drain any excess water in the system
  3. If the leak is on a heating pipe this may take a while to stop but because you've turned the water off it will eventually contain the leak as much as you can until it stops
  4. If the leak is in an awkward position clear as much round it as you can to help when it comes to fixing it.
  5. Call a local reputable plumber to come fix the problem for you. if you can send them pictures of the leak then this can be real help

Heres What to do it there is a leak on a waste pipe

  1. Identify which pipe is leaking and what appliance ect. is using the pipe for waste water.
  2. isolate or stop using water and stop the pipe leaking
  3. Call a local reputable plumber to come fix the problem for you. if you can send them pictures of the leak then this can be real help

What to do if the leak is on the main supply (before the stop tap)

  1. contain the leak as much as possible
  2. locate external stop tap (usually at the end of the drive or outside property boundary)
  3. looks like a small manhole cover with water written on. inside the will be a tap turn clockwise to turn off.
  4. If you cant find your external stop tap contact Yorkshire Water on 0345 124 2424 or who ever your supplier is to locate it for you
